Alfred N. Aukema, II, 39, formerly of Anna, has been indicted by a Union County grand jury on charges of criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a victim under the age of 16.
Aukema was initially charged in 2011. After the charges were filed, Carbondale Police said Aukema took his two sons out of state without permission. The children were found several days later with relatives in California, but authorities could not locate Aukema.
The Union County State's Attorney's Office says Aukema was arrested last month in Florida and extradited to Illinois. Aukema is being held in the Jackson County Jail on $150,000 bond. His arraignment is scheduled for July 9 in Union County.
