According to Variety (via Comingsoon), Emma Watson is being considered for the title role in Disney's live-action fantasy movie, Cinderella. It is far from certain that she'll get the role since talks are still in the early stages.
Watson wasn't Disney's first choice though. The studio also took a look at Gabriella Wilde, Imogen Poots, and Alicia Vikander, but for one reason or another, a deal couldn't be done, according to the report. Saoirse Ronan was also in the mix and may still is.
Cate Blanchett is already onboard to play the wicked stepmother.
Kenneth Branagh will direct from a script by Chris Weitz. Mark Romanek was originally attached to direct, but he left the movie over creative differences with Disney. Romanek's vision for the movie was apparently too dark for the studio.
A fall start date is being eyed for a 2014 release.
Of course, it's possible Variety could have gotten this all wrong, and Branagh will take to Facebook to say so.
